More than 300 children from ten primary schools across Bridgend County Borough enjoyed nutritious meals, exciting activities and valuable learning opportunities throughout the summer holidays as part of this year’s successful Food and Fun programme.

Funded through the Welsh Local Government Association (WLGA), the Food and Fun programme is a school holiday enrichment initiative designed to support children stay healthy, active and engaged during the summer break.

Running from 20 July to 6 August, the 12-day programme provided pupils with healthy breakfasts and lunches, while encouraging children to try new foods and develop positive attitudes towards healthy eating.

longside nutrition education, the children enjoyed a wide range of enrichment activities including sports, arts and crafts, games, outdoor play and wellbeing sessions.

Parents and carers were also invited to join their children for breakfast or lunch each week, helping to strengthen family engagement and encourage healthy eating at home.

Through healthy food, fun activities and learning opportunities, the program helps to support children’s physical, mental and social wellbeing while creating positive experiences that can have a lasting impact.

Bridgend Sustainable Food Partnership supported Food and Fun this year with funding to provide cooking activities in every school. Support was also available for schools to visit a farm and one school took pupils for a tour of Slade Farm Organics.
