About the Pilot Project
In response to conversations in the community food network meetings we are excited to launch our new pilot project utilising Emergency Food Aid funding from WLGA.
The Situation – We understand that volunteers and staff members are spending their time shopping at many different supermarkets to get the best prices for their project, we want a more coordinated approach in Bridgend utilising bulk buying power through local Welsh wholesaler; Castell Howell. The pilot will utilise WLGA Emergency Food Aid funding and ensures that Welsh money stays in Wales; whilst providing good quality food supply to community groups and reducing the workload on third sector staff and volunteers.
How this will work? Community Groups are invited to apply to be part of the buying group. Successful applicants will be set up with a Castell Howell Account and receive up to £4500 of budget to make purchases for your food projects. Purchases can be made for food or drink for your project. Orders will be placed directly with Castell Howell who will deliver the food items directly to you.
Selection:The panel will select up to 10 community groups to work with. There will be a maximum grant value available of £4500 per organisation.
Budget:There is a total of £45,000 emergency food aid available to support third sector organisations in Bridgend providing food support to communities.
Who is eligible for the grant? The Food Poverty Grant is available to not for profit organisations basedor serving the communities of Bridgend County Borough.
What can I use the grant for?
Emergency Food Aid – to sustain and strengthen existing activity around food poverty actions and services. This funding will cover both capital and revenue expenditure.
Fund details – Grant applications of up to £4500.00. (Castell Howell Budget) In exceptional cases, the panel may consider a higher amount at their discretion. Please feel free to chat to our funding advisors before submitting if you are unsure, they can give you helpful advice.
Application Requirements: Applicants must explain:
Why the funding is needed and how it adds value; Targeting: How it will reach those most in need; Sustainability: Plans for after funding ends; Impact Measurement: Use of data, stats, or case studies; Collaboration: Multi-agency/local partnership working; Integration: Avoiding duplication, building networks.

Programmes should work with existing services (e.g., food banks, Fareshare, health services, veterans, homelessness charities etc.) and applicants for projects related to food projects are expected to engage with the Bridgend Sustainable Food Partnership.
Closing Date: 9AM on 01/6/26
Due to strict funder guidelines, all projects need to be fully spent and delivered by 31/3/27 and will be required to submit an end-of project report and/or case study and photographs by 14th April 2027. Failure to do so on time will result in an immediate recall of the funding offer.
